We had a great day with Your Horse Magazine recently when they attended one of our Teambuilding days. It was great for me to try the exercises out with ‘horsey’ people as most of the time, people have had nothing to do with horses who attend the days.

The team were great, getting into the swing of things with the cane exercise. This is a fun exercises that can help you understand how important communication, listening and delegating a leader is to achieve a task.

They all met the horses and experienced that if their goals weren’t the same, or implemented well, how the horses would go off and do their own thing. The teams of two were then left to ponder on how to work together to achieve the same goal but using their different skills. Lots to talk about!

Then the whole team was put together to achieve the task of getting the horse to walk in between two cones. This started off well but then Black Jack had other ideas and went off to see his friends. This then allowed the team to learn about nominating a leader, positioning people in their strengths zones, having a plan, and most of all having a back up plan! When they got all this sorted you can see the results…… and all done in a 5 acre field, amazing!

Well done Your Horse Team. The article comes out next year in the Your Horse Magazine

Our recent networking event went down a real treat with business leaders from all over the country arriving from as far as Sussex and Newcastle. The weather was dry & warm, the refreshments were yummy and the turn out was impressive & colorful.

I knew I was stretching it a bit to get people to leave their desks and venture onto a farm and play with the horses, but I was willing to take a risk and give it a go. I started everyone off gently by making sure they had some delicious cakes & a hot drink.

Then I thought a nice stroll across the fields would start to re-balance people’s energies, before letting them meet the horses later on. When we reached the woods I could show everyone my kind of training room; a log cabin surrounded by trees with a roaring fire to keep you warm. Bushcraft Phil then did a short demonstration of how many ‘tools’ we are putting around ourselves today & how stripping things back to the basics can enhance our qualities as leaders.

Back to the indoor arena where the horses were waiting to show everyone their leadership skills. Who would dare go in the pen and get some feedback straight from the horses mouth?…..Watch this video to find out.

It was an amazing day and a big thank you goes out to all the businesses that supported us and the team who helped make it possible.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon

FEEDBACK:

‘Wow, awesome!’, ‘Fantastic, inspiring day’, Can’t wait to work with you’, ‘I didn’t want to leave’, ‘Unique and interesting, I can see many applications’, ‘Just fascinating’.

The Autism programme is going spectacularly well, with the children bringing smiles and beautiful weather with them. We have been lucky enough to work mostly outside with the horses, going for rides around the farm. We have expored the ponds, river, log cabin and the woods all on horse back. Paige and Mathew are eager to trot so Max and I have been building up our fitness to run along side them. We’ve drawn a line at the big hills though.

Mathew and Paige can both catch their horses now, brush them off, pick out feet and tack up ready for riding. Just need to work on getting the girths tighter!

The smiles we see and the laughter we hear melts our hearts. What a great way to spend our time.

We have laughed and cried together during the programme and shared some quality moments.

When you start a programme like this it’s hard to help people understand the journey they are about to undertake. Having this precious time to really explore how you work and see things, is a life changing experience. These amazing people have not only been on their own journeys but also one as a whole group. We had one of our final days together last week and I found it quite emotional seeing everyone off.

Sarah Readings, lead coach, has this incredible way of bringing a room to life and a group together. She has ‘stretched’ us all, knowing there was more to discover. I mean how can you have a whole room in dispute about a drawing of a square and a squiggle?! I still am laughing about it now. Sarah’s programme is full of rich teachings and real life discussions, life will never be the same again.

We have a few more days to go, and of course watching Sarah & her hubby doing the Tango for charity to fit in! We wish them all well with their final assessments.

Our next programme is the ILM Level 7 Coaching & Mentoring programme which is going to be held at Learning To Listen and we will be working with the horses. Really looking forward to that and we still have 2 places left.

Whilst wondering down the rolling hills they were met by the Alpacas and their youngsters before having well earned refreshments and heading off to see the Equine Facilitated demonstration. Black Jack, a pony, Learning To Listens star demonstrator, was a perfect example of how disengaged children can become in a static classroom environment. He looked out of the window, ignored his teacher when they entered the room and was generally disengaged with the lesson. This allowed Sarah Kreutzer, founded of Learning to Listen, to show how her concepts to engaging people really work and how the horses are a good mirror to how well we are using them. It wasn’t long before Black Jack was motivated, engaged and even a willing partner in the relationship.

‘The fascinating thing,’ says Sarah, ‘Is that you can’t train the horses to behave in a certain way with each person. They just do different things with different people, which points out where we can improve our communication skills, verbal and non-verbal.’ ‘It’s so accurate that it’s like someone is reading your mind!’

Phil Pemberton, the Bushcraft expert was on next with his fire lighting skills from just making embers. ‘Taking people right back to basics,’ Phil says, ‘Can unnerve people to start with, but by the time they leave they are walking ten feet tall, able to problem solve and deal more effectively with adversity’

The teachers were so impressed with what they had learnt from the day that they have already booked programmes for their students so they can all carry on learning together.

Paige rode Moonbeam and Mathew had his first ride on Black Jack. We rode over to the log cabin in the woods and through the field with the ponds in it. We were lucky to be joined by Mathew’s dad this week too which was a lovely surprise.

Then they both met the farrier for the first time and held their ponies so Richard could trim their feet. A wonderful day was had by all and the weather was just beautiful too.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard much about coaching yet or maybe you are a coach or have had some coaching, but I just wanted to let you know about our NEW programme that’s coming up.

Sarah Readings and I wanted to bring you something NEW and exciting that we know you could use to enrich not only your personal life but also your professional life. So we put our heads together and have come up with an accredited ILM Level 7 Coaching & Mentoring programme that we know is going to blow your socks off. And the great thing for me is that we are going to be working with the horses to give you a whole new level of feedback.

The horses are going to be able to feedback to you every moment you are working with them, letting you know how you’re doing every step of the way. This feedback is second to none, honest and immediate so it can advance your skills at a very fast rate. You’ll become even more alert to how other peoples body language is communicating with you and how to respond to this effectively.

If you think you are ready to talk to the horses then give us a call and we can talk you through the details of the programme or you could come and meet us on our Taster day
