Equine

Some might say what I do is Natural Horsemanship or Horse Whispering. Some think it’s magical or mystical and some think it’s nothing more than basic common sense. I guess I am not sure what to call it.

My knowledge and experience has come from many inspirational horse trainers from around the world. However it wasn’t until I was on my own trying to remember what they had taught me, that my real education began.

Horses are wonderful teachers and if you don’t listen you can soon find yourself in a difficult situation. This is why I called my business Learning to Listen. By listen I mean learning to watch and recognise every movement. This is how I have kept out of trouble with the horses. I don’t feel we need to teach the horses anything else, as I feel they can already do most things we ask of them. I feel that the element of the relationship that is missing is the listening part. All I know, is that I see a lot more now, I feel a lot more now and I can do a lot more and I am sure that by tomorrow, if I keep listening (and a little less talking) I’ll know more too.

I will continue with this style of horsemanship for as long as I still can see the overwhelming benefits it has for everyone concerned. By the time people bring their horses to us they are often on their last chance. They have usually tried everything you can think of to make it work and by now their confidence and nerves are in tatters.

The Learning To Listen Team and myself work all year around in the most breath taking setting, to put peoples relationships back on track with their equine friends. Our facilities are specifically built to deal with small issues right up to the most complicated horse problems. Our team has a well-rounded knowledge of many horsemanship styles ranging from the competition world to the more holistic therapies.

My first introduction to horses was when my mum got kicked when she was 9 months pregnant with me. Somehow this didn’t seem to put me off and I went on to win my first ribbon, as we call them in Australia, when I was 3 years old. My passion stayed with me as we moved to England where my attentions turned to Eventing, Hunting and Team Chasing.

It wasn’t until a close friend had a fatal accident that my life turned upside down and my confidence with horses plummeted. I never wanted to ride again.

My mum was my saviour at this point, coaching me and pushing my fear barriers on a daily basis to get me back on my feet and where she new I could be again, confident and loving riding.

It was at this point that I needed to learn more about horses and their behaviour and as I did, my confidence grew. I began working my way back up the long and hard confidence ladder. Now I feel I am back on track and able to help others on their journeys.
